Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
Let's be honest here, no one knows the players are tired do they? Its pure guess work because we've started a couple of games slower. We're finishing games stronger though so I would suggest that tiredness is not the excuse.

I still think that we're just not good enough to dominate games like most want us too.

"This has to be expected when they've had years of dinosaur training methods."

What a load of fucking shit you post AFTER 8, still blaming BFS is fucking pathetic.

What's your excuse for Payet then? Moses? Valencia?

No excuse for it at all.

Honestly I think our.players are a wee bit tired. This has to be expected when they've had years of dinosaur training methods.

What I don't agree with is this ridiculous nonsense that bilic only has one way to play. One of the drawbacks of Sam was there was no plan b but for me bilic has shown a flexibility which is to admired.

Tiredness - there was no movement in the first half against Villa.

Front lot were like statues.

OM Spot on, comma. We're not quite good enough to dominate from start to finish.

It's defo not in your imagination.

Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
If we were to play the diamond like we did last year, I think it could work.

To protect the flanks the forwards would have to set up wide and work very hard to pressure the opposition.

I think Antonio has shown that and coming in from wide for headers (as he has) on the break is what got Sakho a number of his goals last year.

That is where Valencia looked best, for the longest at least.

EE looks like he could do it as well.

And you get Payet in the middle, which seems increasingly important after him having a few subpar (for him) games. Certainly a step up from Downing, even at the latter's best.

But all that said, I think we should have a few different looks.

Bilic has said things like players looked sluggish and were not as up for it as the opposition.

Surprised he said this. Thought teams were supposed to be prepared and wound up for games, knocking the dressing room doors down before they come out.

Yes croe, and one of them for example, is Southampton, who started far quicker than us at the weekend.

Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
I prefer us with noble and kouyate, with lanzini PAYET and one other behind the front man, personally, all with a licence to roam and interchange.

That said, in certain away games that we've won, the central 3 has been critical.

When everyone is fit, I think he's got it right almost every time, but we do miss Lanzini badly. No harm in that, man city have spent about half a billion and take out their two best and they look ordinary

I counted 14 below us............

Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
Nah you play Obiang/Song in behind Noble and Kouyate and Payet free in front of them with two attackers

Still not idea as Lanzini deserves to be playing........

Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
Slow starts are definitely a concern, but there are plenty of teams who start even slower than we do. There's about 10 or 12 below us for example.

As has been mentioned, Bilic has got it wrong a couple of times, but so far as I can tell, only Ranieri has got it right every week this season.

I would like to see us give the diamond more of a go with two up two now we have two attack minded full backs.

One McAvennieeeeee 8:13 Mon Feb 8
Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
Yep. I prefer us with Payet in a wider position with the licence to roam, and 3 centre midfielders.

whufcroe 8:12 Mon Feb 8
Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
The problem at Southampton is went 2 in the middle and 4 offensive players and they put in 3, just like Spurs did

Bilic picked the wrong side to start, made the wrong subs but it happens, it doesn't mean he's a fucking shit cunt manager and should be sacked, he's doing a bloody good job.

I think people who were not at the game under estimate quite how bad the conditions were and how difficult it was to play in that against 10 behind the ball.

Re: These notoriously slow starts under Bilic are really beginning to add up now
Bilic has said things like players looked sluggish and were not as up for it as the opposition. This is no figment of anyone's imagination in some games it is a mass observed fact.

To me we do not need different players we just need the existing ones up for it. The OP twerp mentioned the Man City game but I thought we competed well in spite of conceding early. As for the Southampton home game we should have been dead and buried by half time but they were profligate in front of our goal.

This is the puzzle to me because we do compete very well from the start in some games and appear to be caught cold in others.
